Should I get rid of Kontera?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or get your blog updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

Kontera is an advertising program that I wanted to test run on my blog. It is the double underlined words that you see after the entire site loads. I started using them on November 7th, and so far I have only made about $2 from them. Now obviously, with the growth rate of the blog, I will eventually be making a decent income from them, but I do not know if the extra $10-50/m is worth annoying my visitors, and adding a little extra delay in the blog loading.

It is up to you, comment below if you think the Kontera ads take too long to load, are annoying, and if you think I should get rid of them. If the majority agrees with me and wants me to get rid of Kontera, I will take them down for a few months, but I may ultimately try them again later when they are more relevant, pay more, load faster, and are less annoying to the visitors.

I can’t see any of the adverts at all, are you sure they are working? Also do the links get spidered by the search engines?

I’ve been reading your site for a while and I’ve got to say that I’ve barely seen a Kontera ad. The site looks pretty slick and I don’t really see anything wrong with adding a few ads. It’s definitely not over-monetized.

No no, keep it on your site and do the analysis. I’d love to hear your result next month to see how much you get out of it. Is it really that annoying… yes! I hate it when I accidentally point the mouse cursor over some words, then got pop up… I never read them, really.

I find them annoying but I do agree that keeping it for analysis reasons is a good idea.

I think leaving them for analysis purposes is great. That said, they really bug me when I read blogs. It slows things down, and if you accidentally hover over a link the little bubble pops up and blocks the text of the blog.

Also, as a side note, is something wrong with RSSHugger? Every single category on the Search page that I click on has no blogs listed in it after the page loads. (and yes, I’m clicking on ones with numbers larger than zero next to the category name)

Thanks for the responses.

@Caitlin: Thats for letting me know, I have forwarded the error to my programmer and will have him look into it.

Kontera works great, if you have John Chow’s traffic… It’s not performing very well for me either.
