Get a free .edu blog

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or get your blog updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

*Looks like the host nuked the blogs, so I now declare this post obsolete.*

I was originally planning on not even writing this… but here goes nothing. I get a lot of people to email me about getting a free blog post on my PR2 .edu blog. Today I stumbled upon yet another university that gives away blogs, but the difference is with this one anyone can register as many .edu domains blogs as they want.

Obviously a university that is giving away free .edu blogs to anyone is going to be easily abused and prone to massive amounts of spam, but just for those of you looking to boost your page strength you can go ahead and get your own free .edu blog.

Please know that a .edu link provides zero extra benefit to a normal backlink, but for some reason people still crawl to the ends of the internet looking to gain more of them. If you come across people begging for .edu links (which you will if you read webmaster forums), go ahead and forward them to this post. If you really want to be evil, you could most likely even sell blog posts and blogroll links on your new .edu blog(s) for a profit.

Interesting. I might go back to my university and ask them to give me a link. How valuable can it be? Can I register a .edu domain name for a online education course?

You have to own an actual university (not a high school or elementary school either) to get a .edu domain.

I don’t believe so, it looks like the standard install of Wordpress MU so all of the plugins and presentation is locked.

Nope, you can’t even change the theme. But hey, it is a .edu domain. Use it to your advantage, sell links.

I don’t remember how I found your blog. But this is the only other blog i frequent on a regular basis. I already got myself several blogs from that website. I recomend you make several DUMMY emails and then go to the site and make accounts.
