A new site just launched in their Alpha stage called 12 Seconds. The site is basically the Twitter of video. The idea is that you record a short video of what you are doing that is a maximum length of 12 seconds. Now in my opinion, Twitter works because you can type a quick update in about 5 seconds due to all the great web plugins for it. My question is… why in the world would someone port that into video format? The end result is the majority of the current videos being uploaded featuring a low quality cut of someone talking insanely fast and not punctuating their sentences.
The first video that is featured on the homepage further makes me hate the idea… I have embedded it below but I must warn you the audio quality is terrible.

Apparently the people in the video are “super happy and talking about friends, family, god, and all that stuff.” Sorry to be the first person to publicly hate this 12 Seconds website, but I just don’t get the need for it. I find the site completely useless… On the 12 Seconds about page, the developers of the site said they cap videos at 12 seconds because anything longer than that is boring.
I disagree… every single 12 Seconds video so far as been boring after the first 2 seconds. Unlike Youtube where the funny videos weed out the bad ones… the 12 Seconds website seems like it will feature ONLY the stupid ones… sorry guys but I will stick with Twitter myself.
12 Seconds has launch coverage from a ton of the massive new media blogs, and I have no doubt it will have a massive following… but I find the site a complete waste of time. The ONLY useful thing about the site that I have noticed is that external links in your profile are search engine friendly dofollow links (this ones for you DJ-MC lol).
So what are your thoughts on 12 Seconds?
Yeah, I nearly puked just watching the first video…
I can’t imagine taking the time to capture 12 seconds of random BS, edit it, and upload it - for what? Why? What purpose could it possibly serve?
Twitter’s selling point is that it’s fast. Type in whatever..boom, it’s live.
Anyway, if this takes off, I’ll stick foot in mouth, but, I just don’t see it happening. Again, what’s the point?

But an idea is still an idea, and it’s suppose to be good. I guess that’s because the users are not technical enough to produce good 12 second videos.
I completely agree, I thought it was stupid from the first time I saw it.
Just curious….do you have to post a video to fill out a profile page? (I guess I’ll have to check out the site and find out…)

I think Twitter is useless, so this is very useless….. I expect 12 second remakes of classic youtube favorites to start popping up… (12 second Charlie the unicorn…. 12 second mentos and coke….etc)

Hmmm, can’t say I’ve heard of this. I guess, it could end up having a viral effect to it.
I’m sure, just like Youtube, Twitter, Plurk, and all the countless others, there will be crap on there. But I’m sure someone will find a good use for it.
Many hated Twitter at first, now they are coming around to liking it. I’ll watch an see, but, as of now, I can’t say I have much interest in a 12 second video lol

I tried to get Twitter when I heard the rave over it, and I just do not get the point of it at all either. Now a video version of twitter, for heavens sake!
Why was the girl going up and down giving the rock on sign? Like, hi, I’m an idiot in a 12 second video, and I’m such an idiot I’m not even going to talk or stay on screen the whole time.
Its a dumb idea, but you know it has a chance to catch on because of dumb people.
I would not call it dumb but it is definitely not so practical. Way too time consuming making that 12 sec video.
