Here is an excellent “ten minutes or less” link building tip. Earlier this week when I was browsing a lot of SEO and link building blogs/forums, I found a very good idea to get some easy dofollow links.

The idea is that over time, many bloggers and webmasters will talk about your site, and you will inevitably run into a few who mention a blog post of yours, or your homepage URL, but forget to make it an active hyperlink.

Well, you can use Yahoo.com’s site explorer to find the domains that mention your URL but are not linking to you, and this allows you to easily email the owner and have a huge success rate for them just making the link clickable. Depending on how popular and large your site is, the more links you can build.

The original method that is all over the SEO blogs already is to type this into yahoo.com:
yourdomain.com -linkdomain:yourdomain.com

This would show all blog posts + websites that mention “yourdomain.com” in text but do not link to it.

I went above and beyond this and fiddled with it a bit and came up with a better solution for collinlahay.com, and here was the best query where I found about 4 websites that mentioned me but didn’t link to me (3 of which have now added a link).
collinlahay.com -linkdomain:www.collinlahay.com -linkdomain:collinlahay.com -site:collinlahay.com

This would query yahoo.com for anyone that mentioned “collinlahay.com” or even “www.collinlahay.com”, but were NOT linking to either the www or just collinlahay.com, and the -site:collinlahay.com is so that my own blog posts do not get shown.

The reason I choose this query is because on the original idea, if you did -linkdomain:yourdomain.com, it would still potentially show websites that linked to www.yourdomain.com in the results, making you have a lot more pages to scroll through.

So all in all, use this query (obviously with your own domain)
collinlahay.com -linkdomain:www.collinlahay.com -linkdomain:collinlahay.com -site:collinlahay.com

Hopefully you can find some blog posts that have your URL in it but are not linking to you. A simple email can give you a few more pagerank dofollow links to help you out in your link building efforts. Good luck! :-)

I have been doing this for a while and it’s brilliant. I think during December, I got 6 fresh dofollow links thanks to this :)

I’ve heard this tip many times, but the part no one talks about is how to best contact and pitch people to get them to link to you. In my limited experience trying this, I did not get any responses. I’d love to hear exactly how you guys went about getting people to turn a word into a hyperlink.

I knew the people that switched the links for me… so I just sent them an email. I guess it really depends on who the people are and how they know you or talked about you.

Sorry but there is no easy answer to this one.

Another expert tip I’d like to pass along is “Galaxy”, an advertising site.

One page that I did, with minimal content and containing a single sentence with my “Anchor Text” words, is now #24 for “Sacramento Wedding DJs” after being indexed by Google on Jan 8, four hours after I placed the “ad” (page).

Nice tip Collin!
I have submitted my articles over number of sites .Some of them copied by other websites, they mentioned author bio but didn’t hyperlink the webpage URL.I used to send email for hyperlinked url of my webpage and I have been getting links from there.
